Hiroshima University’s official mascot, “Heroty®,” attracted attention at the Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit (RGMBS) 2026, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and was featured on the official Saudi Arabia social media account of Al Arabiya, one of the leading news channels in the Arab world.
The report highlighted “Heroty,” which was presented by Hiroshima University President Mitsuo Ochi to representatives from Saudi Arabia during the summit. It also introduced Heroty as a mascot inspired by the phoenix, the symbol of Hiroshima University, explaining that the phoenix represents Hiroshima’s recovery from the devastation of the atomic bombing. Heroty was also introduced as the “Protector of Peace.”
Heroty was presented on the occasion of the signing of an academic and research cooperation agreement between Hiroshima University and the King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC). Heroty also drew the attention of visitors at the Hiroshima University booth in the Japan Pavilion at RGMBS 2026, helping to spark interaction with many participants.
At Hiroshima University, Heroty is used in a variety of international exchange activities. Students participating in overseas programs sometimes take Heroty with them, and the mascot is also presented as a commemorative gift to international guests visiting the University.
Alongside President Ochi’s keynote lecture at RGMBS and the signing of the agreement with KAIMRC, Heroty also helped convey Hiroshima University’s history and its commitment to peace to audiences in Saudi Arabia.
